How does Autopay work? A simple guide

Autopay kaise kaam karta hai aur kya ye safe hai? Setup, reminder, deduction, aur SIP pause ya cancel karne ka simple process jaaniye.

2 min read

You just started your first SIP. Then you reached the autopay screen and paused. Will money leave your account on its own? Without telling you? Is it even safe?

This worry is normal. Almost every new investor has it. So let's clear it up.

Is Autopay safe?

Yes, it is. Autopay is RBI-regulated, and the setup is simple. You approve it once. After that, your bank deducts a fixed amount on a set date, every month or every day, depending on your SIP.

Think of it like your phone recharge or your OTT subscription. The money goes out automatically, but only the amount you already agreed to.

How does Autopay work?

The process has three steps.

Step 1: You approve autopay once

You link your bank account and approve the mandate. Sometimes this comes with a small verification charge, like ₹1. Don't panic. That amount gets refunded to your account immediately or within a few days.

Step 2: You get a reminder before the due date

Sipse sends you a notification or email 24 to 48 hours before your SIP date. This tells you an installment is coming up. No surprises.

Step 3: The money goes out on the due date

On the due date, the system deducts the amount from your bank account. It then invests that money in your chosen mutual fund.

Here's an example. Say you start a ₹2,000 monthly SIP with a due date of the 5th. On the 3rd, you get a reminder. On the 5th, ₹2,000 moves from your bank to your fund. You can check it in the app.

What if you want to pause or change your SIP?

Life changes. Maybe your salary comes late this month. Maybe you want to invest a bit more. Either way, you're not stuck.

You can do the following right from the Sipse app:

  • Change your autopay amount
  • Pause your SIP
  • Cancel autopay anytime

What if something goes wrong?

Sometimes a payment fails or the app shows an error. Don't ignore it. Contact Sipse's 24/7 customer support and get help quickly.

To avoid most problems, keep these habits:

  • Keep enough balance in your account on the due date.
  • Read your reminders. They tell you what's coming.
  • Check the app once in a while to confirm your SIP is running.

The short answer

Autopay is safe. You set it up once, and you get a reminder before every deduction. The money goes into your mutual fund on the due date. You can change or cancel it whenever you want.

Autopay handles the boring part. Your job is to stay consistent, and that's where the real growth comes from.
